This is a designer/illustrator’s blog I’ve been taken with lately. I’m so curious about her process.
I love type.
I love unique type.
I love “immature typography” - or unrefined typography - (I tend to lean towards hand done typography that exists in the moment of the concept. Ink a headline. Done. Move on.)

Whenever I decide to refine my work further than my innate reactions - pushing my process - it tends to seem over worked and I become too attached to certain embellishments or details or the polar opposite is true and I need to get away from it completely. Which is why J. Hische’s stuff just blows me away. It’s very telling of her personality, I think. The time that is poured into her work just amazes me.

Does she refine it before she makes it digital? Is inked before she scans it?

Cheers to J. Hische! Well done.

After many moons and a lot of work my online portfolio is…online. The daily grind really keeps me from keeping my portfolio up-to-date but hopefully a shiney new website with a really well organized CMS will make it easier for me. It’s nice to be able to sort and relive my work. It’s like getting out the old dusty shoebox of photos that you keep in your closet. All the same reactions apply.

“I love this piece. I was so young when I did that.”
“This one was a bear - so needy and clingy.”
“Oh lord, I remember her - I never got my money out of that one.”

So emotional attachment aside - I’m glad I have something to chronicle my professional carreer to this point.

Enjoy.
